Projects:
– Quantum networks
– Quantum memory
– Quantum transduction
– Bio-photon emission and quantum biology
The Quantum Cloud Lab collaborates with the theory group of Prof. Simon on a range of projects. Several are related to quantum networks including implementations of quantum memory and quantum transducers in rare-earth ion doped materials. The collaboration also involves the study of other applications or fundamental experiments using rare-earth ion doped systems. We are also implementing the experimental work on bio-photon emission in neuronal tissue as a signature of a possible role of quantum mechanics in the functioning of brains.
Intelligent Quantum Networks (INQNET) consortium

Projects:
– Quantum networks
The Quantum Cloud Lab is part of the Intelligent Quantum Networks collaboration, which aims to bring together expertise in various aspects of quantum network realizations and applications to formulate the vision and build robust components for future quantum networks. The consortium is headed by Prof. Maria Spiropulu at Caltech and involves collaborators from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Fermi National Laboratory, Harvard University, AT&T Foundry, and the University of Calgary.

Projects:
– Single photon and entangled pair sources for quantum communication
The Quantum Cloud Lab has partnered with the research group of Drs. Robin Williams and Dan Dalacu on using their quantum-dot photon sources to realize quantum information protocols. This includes the realization of measurement-device independent QKD as well as more advanced protocols and interfacing with integrated quantum memory.
Barry Sanders Group - University of Calgary

Projects:
– Quantum satellite ground station
– Quantum network security
The Quantum Cloud Lab is partnering with the theory group of Prof. Sanders to implement a quantum satellite ground station at the University of Calgary. A first key objective is to establish a link to the Micius satellite.
Sarah McFarlane Lab - University of Calgary

Projects:
– Bio-photon emission from Xenophus tadpoles
The Quantum Cloud Lab’s work on bio-photon detection involves a crucial collaboration with the McFarlane Lab through Dr. Gabriel Bertolesi whose research focus on identifying molecules and mechanisms in live organisms that are important in controlling progenitor proliferation and differentiation using zebrafish and Xenopus laevis as vertebrate models. Our bio-photon research also employs neural tissue from Xenopus laevis as the model system.
