Karabee Batta

Bio

Karabee did her bachelor’s in computer science and a minor in physics from BITS Pilani, India. She joined the QCloud Lab in January 2020 to work with Dr Oblak on establishing free space QKD using LEO satellites, as part of her bachelor’s thesis project. The group has successfully established links with the Chinese satellite Micius. She continued working on the project post-graduation and worked on the initial setup and integration of the experimental equipment and then on characterising the light pollution and background light profile characteristics for the free space link, the latter of which is now part of a joint comparative study with Thomas Jennewein’s group at the University of Waterloo. As one of the first people who worked on the project she can fully certify that “It’s pretty darn cool”. Apart from this, her interests include astronomy, sketching, learning languages, reading books and then having long discussions.
